An electroplating company in Denmark made changes in the production process for galvanising. They substituted zinc cyanide by zinc chloride.

Alternatives to hydrazine in anticorrosion treatment for boilers

Hydrazine is used to protect boilers form corrosion by reducing the concentration of dissolved oxygen in the water and by contributing to the passivation of the metal surface of the installation. Hydrazine is a hazardous substance and alternatives have been found that give acceptable results.

Alternative zu Hydrazin für die Wasserbehandlung von Wasser-Dampf-Kreisläufen

Hydrazinhaltige Produkte werden in der Wasserbehandlung und Konditionierung von Wasser-Dampf-Kreisläufen verwendet. Allerdings wurde Hydrazin 2011 aufgrund seiner krebserzeugenden Eigenschaft (Carc. 1B, H350) als besonders besorgniserregender Stoff (substance of very high concern, SVHC) unter der REACH-Verordnung (EG) Nr. 1907/2006 identifiziert. Damit gelten für Hydrazin z.B. bestimmte Melde- und Informationspflichten bei Import und Herstellung. Für Beschäftigte wurde in der EU ein verbindlicher Arbeitsplatzgrenzwert festgelegt, der in Deutschland in der technischen Regel für Gefahrstoffe (TRGS 910) als Konzentrationsgrenzen umgesetzt wurde. Die hier vorgestellte Alternative kann als Hydrazinersatz die technischen und wasserchemischen Eigenschaften in der Wasserbehandlung von Dampferzeugern, Heiznetzen und Fernwärmesystemen übernehmen.

These products, however, can have serious consequences for the working environment and the external environment. The brochure that provides the basis for this case story contains a ranking system used for industrial surface treatment which takes the working environment and the external environment into account.

Cerium oxides as alternative to chromate anticorrosion coatings

Chromium VI is used in manufacturing of anti-corrosion coatings for various applications. Using cerium oxides as a possible substitute of chromates in applications for military aircraft gave promising results.
