You can refine your search after first entry for sector-, function- and process-categories. The case studies are meant to serve as source of inspiration and ideas for substitution. The alternatives are constantly being developed further. We therefore recommend that you to check in each individual case whether an alternative is suitable for your applications and purposes. Einer der größten Hersteller von Goldschmuck in Dänemark hat erfolgreich den methanol- und boraxhaltigen Zusatz Flux V für Schweißbrennstoffe substituiert. Als Alternative wird eine Aceton/Wasserstoff-Mischung eingesetzt. Abgesehen vom Vorteil der Vermeidung von Borax und Methanol hat die geringere Temperatur der Schweißflamme das Präzisionsschweißen vereinfacht.

Substituting Methanol and Borax in gold jewellery production.

One of Denmark’s largest manufactures of gold jewellery has successfully substituted the welding fuel agent Flux V, containing methanol and borax. It has been substituted with an acetone/hydrogen mixture. Apart from the benefits of eliminating boron and handling of methanol in the procedure, the lower flame temperature has made the precision welding procedure more manageable.

Cleaning of tools used for polyester resin with propylene carbonate as alternative to acetone

A plastic boat producer used very volatile and highly flammable acetone to clean tools that came in contact with polystyrene resin. Substituting acetone with propylene carbonate reduced consumption by ten times and diminished considerably the fire and explosion risks.

Safer Alternatives to Solvent Aerosol Automotive Cleaning Products

This is a report from a study with the aim to identify products for automotive cleaning that functions well and that contain low or no amounts of volatile organic compounds (VOC). The alternatives tested included acetone and a soy based product. This project could identify a number of cleaners with zero or low content of VOC, who functioned as well as or better than the high VOC cleaners.
