The application for authorisation (AfA) process under REACH includes a period of consultation. It lasts for eight weeks. In 2021 ECHA holds consultations on applications for authorisation during the following periods. 17 February 2021 – 14 April 2021, 19 May 2021 – 14 July 2021, 18 August 2021 – 13 October 2021, 17 November 2021 – 12 January 2022.
On 19 May 2021 ECHA has launched a consultation on five applications for authorisation covering six uses of:
- chromium trioxide (EC 215-607-8, CAS 1333-82-0) for the following uses:
- decorative/functional application in the furniture, sanitary and automotive sector;
- functional chrome plating of components in sectors such as mechanical engineering, metalworking, aerospace, automotive, and medical technology;
- formulation of chromium trioxide-based electrolyte for electroplating; and
- functional plating of cylinders used in the rotogravure printing and embossing industry
- dichromium tris(chromate) (EC 246-356-2, CAS 24613-89-6) for use in a post-treatment step of the autodeposition coating process of shock absorbers for automotive vehicles.
- chromic acid (EC 231-801-5; CAS 7738-94-5) for use in the functional electroplating of brass-made sanitary articles.
