ECHA: Combined consultations on candidates for substitution and derogation to exclusion criteria

  • Date 2024-05-31

On 24 May 2024, ECHA launched a public consultation on possible alternatives and the withdrawals with regard to various anticoagulants and iodine / PVP--Polyvinylpyrrolidone-iodine.

For several active substances, it was determined that they fulfil the exclusion criteria according to Article 5 (1) of the Biocidal Products Regulation. In accordance with the procedure described in the Biocidal Products Regulation, ECHA has therefore launched a public consultation in order to obtain information on whether alternatives to these active substances exist in accordance with Article 10 (3) of the Biocidal Products Regulation and whether the back exemptions in accordance with Article 5 (2) c are fulfilled. This concerns the active substances:

  • Chlorophacinone (EC 223-003-0, CAS 3691-35-8, PT 14)
  • Coumatetralyl (EC 227-424-0, CAS 5836-29-3, PT 14)

ECHA has also published a consultation on candidates for substitution only on:

  • epsilon-Metofluthrin (EC -, CAS 240494-71-7, PT 18, 19)

An application for an extension of the approval in product type 18 (insecticides) and an application for approval in product type 19 (repellents) have been submitted for this biocidal active ingredient.
