Personal care and beauty products are a source of exposure to chemical substances. Product formulators and brands have benefited from the use of hazard assessment tools to vet the relative safety of ingredients as well as alternatives. Yet challenges remain. Last year, the venture capital firm Safer Made issued its report, "The Need for Safer Chemistry in Beauty: Opportunities for Innovation", which outlines product and ingredient classes, such as preservatives, sunscreen agents and packaging materials, where the company believes safer alternatives are needed.

Recordings of the A4--Association for the Advancement of Alternatives Assessment webinar, held on 06 June 2024, are now online, including the report’s findings, reactions from leaders in the industry, and opportunities for furthering safer chemistry innovation in the personal care and beauty product sector.
