Winners of the 15th German Hazardous Substance Protection Award announced

Safe. Better. Work - 2024 in focus: Protection against carcinogenic hazardous substances

The winners of the 15th German Hazardous Substances Protection Award were announced in Stuttgart on September 26, 2024. The German Federal Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs (BMAS) awarded the prize, endowed with 10,000 euros to the Directorate General of Customs (Generalzolldirektion), Bonn, in the category "Technical solution, management and training" for the contribution "Identification of contaminated freight and overseas containers using the GDA-F gas warning device".

In addition, Ms. Jacqueline Tolg, occupational safety specialist, received a commendation in the category "Training" for the contribution "Workshop 'Working with hazardous substances' - switching roles today?".

Jury

An independent jury, which included experts from business, politics, associations and science, decided on the award on June 21, 2024. The BAuA acted as moderator.

Award ceremony

The award ceremony took place on Sept. 26, 2024, as part of the 18th Occupational Safety and Health Forum of the Joint German Occupational Safety and Health Strategy (GDA) in Stuttgart. The award winners will be given the opportunity to present themselves at relevant events.

The Hazardous Substances Protection Award

The German Hazardous Substances Protection Award is conferred by the Federal Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs (BMAS) every two years and organised by the Federal Agency for Occupational Safety and Health (BAuA), which conducts the business of the Committee on Hazardous Substances (AGS). With the title of "increasing the safety of work of hazardous substances and promoting innovation", the award has honoured exemplary and ground-breaking work surrounding protection against hazardous substances. 2024 the prize has been awarded for the 15th time in a row since 1994.
